Their expertise helps ensure high-quality contributions to advance WASH initiatives and promote impactful change worldwide.
Seema Rajouria is the Head of Policy Advocacy and Campaigns in WaterAid Nepal. She started her career as a journalist and moved on to positions in UNDP and ADB as a development communications expert. She switched her career from communications to governance and policy advocacy when Nepal became a federal nation in 2015. She joined WaterAid in 2021 and is passionate about looking at how Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) is given the importance it deserves in the WASH narrative. Seema got her dual master’s degrees from the Heller School of Social Policy, Brandeis University in Sustainable International Development, and Coexistence and Conflict Resolution.
MD NURALAM HOSSAIN, PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from Chongqing University, China, specialises inclimate change, livelihood vulnerability, adaptation, WQI, AQI, and environmental health risk assessment. He has authored/co-authored over 40 research articles and serves as a reviewer/editor for international journals. Dr Hossain has worked on community-based watershed management, stream water quality, and waste water treatment through NbS in Rohingya refugee camps. He worked on USAID's funded CREL and IPAC projects to address climate-resilient natural resource management, EbA, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods. He also worked in the RMG sector as an Environmental Sustainability Officer, E&S expert, and ESG/climate sustainability expert with WB, IFC, KfW, ADB, UNDP, BEZA, banks, and private sectors. Trained in EMS, GRI standards, WB ESF, disaster management, and climate resilience, he has visited multiple countries for studies and conference purposes. Currently, he works at the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Liberal Arts (ULAB),Dhaka, contributing to teaching and research.
Dr Shayok Ghosh is an accomplished environmental consultant at AECOM Singapore. He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a master’s degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Previously, he served as a senior lecturer at East West University (EWU) and a lecturer at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in the Civil Engineering Department.His research focuses on advanced oxidation processes for degrading persistent pollutants, controlling antibiotic resistance, environmental microbiology in aquatic systems, resource recovery from waste water, and promoting a circular economy. Dr Ghosh is dedicated to addressing critical environmental challenges and advancing sustainable practices. His work reflects a strong commitment to environmental engineering innovation and sustainability.
Dr A K M Kamruzzaman currently serves as the Team Leader of the Technical Support Unit under the Bangladesh Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Project at DPHE. He earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from BUET in 1998, followed by a master's degree in Civil Engineering(Environmental) in 2005. In 2014, he obtained a PhD in Project Management from University Sains Malaysia. With over 25 years of experience in the water supply and sanitation sector, Dr Kamruzzaman has contributed to both rural and urban projects. He has worked as a national consultant for DPHE, DWASA, and BMDF,specialising in the design and implementation of water supply and sanitation systems. His expertise includes collaborating with municipalities and city corporations to plan, design, and implement urban infrastructure projects such as kitchen markets, auditoriums, roads, drainage networks, water supply systems, slaughter houses, and parks. He has received specialised training in fecal sludge management (FSM), sustainability, and the green economy. He is a PMI certified PMP and has completed ACBA from Bangladesh Institute of Management. Additionally,he has published numerous articles in reputed journals and has presented his research at conferences both nationally and internationally. Dr Kamruzzaman remains dedicated to ensuring the sustainable management of water supply and sanitation systems in both urban and rural areas of Bangladesh.
With over a decade of dedicated experience in the WASH sector, Bhitush is a fervent advocate for innovative sanitation solutions,striving to advance Sustainable Development Goal 6. As an independent WASH consultant, he is perpetually seeking collaborations that contribute to this vital cause. Previously, as a Principal Consultant at Athena Infonomics, he led complex projects across India and Asia, utilising his analytical and technical expertise to deliver impactful results. Prior to that, he served as a Programme Manager at the Centre for Science and Environment, managing initiatives that addressed critical water and sanitation challenges. His proficiency encompasses sanitation service delivery, citywide inclusive sanitation planning, faecal sludge management, climate-resilient sanitation, and monitoring, learning, and evaluation in WASH. He has authored multiple publications on best practices and tools for WASH practitioners and policymakers, collaborating with governments,NGOs, donors, and communities. Bhitush holds a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India.
Purna Mohanty, with over 25 years of experience, is an expert in sustainable sanitation, innovative toilet technologies, fecal sludge management, water security, and disaster resilience. He serves as the Technical Specialist for Policy & Technical Support at WaterAid India, a leading organisation committed to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for marginalized communities. A strong advocate for inclusivity, Purna has developed accessible WASH solutions that address the needs of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. His expertise in influencing policies and implementing practical innovations has significantly strengthened WASH programs across India. An accomplished author, he has written extensively on groundwater management, rainwater harvesting, and disability-inclusive WASH standards.Purna is deeply committed to empowering communities and ensuring sustainable solutions through active participation and ownership. With a firm belief that access to clean water and sanitation is a basic human right, he strives to create lasting, positive change in the WASH sector.
Engr K M Khaleduzzaman, graduated in Civil & Environmental Engineering and has two postgraduate degrees in Disaster Management and Climate Change & Development, is currently working as the Senior Manager in the BRAC WASH Programme. Previously he worked for BRAC Humanitarian Crisis Management Programme (Rohingya Response), FRIENDSHIP NGO,and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
In 14 years of work in the development and humanitarian sector, Mr.Khaleduzzaman has managed several projects in different climate hotspots of Bangladesh that focused on climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction,infrastructure development, post-disaster rehabilitation, water supply,sanitation, etc. He also responded to several disasters and humanitarian crisis. He specialises in project implementation, grants management, emergency response, MEAL, and knowledge management.
Mr Khaleduzzaman has received different training from home and abroad. He is also the author of several conference papers, journal papers, and articles. Photography, traveling, and gardening are his favorite pastimes.
Rita Cavaleiro de Ferreira is a Portuguese expert in water and sanitation with over 20 years of international experience in governance, regulation sector. Currently based in Germany, she supports global water and sanitation projects after serving in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a Team Leader for the GO4IMPact Programme, the Swiss Development Cooperation initiative focused on improving climate-resilient public service delivery in water and solid waste management. Her expertise spans strategic planning,institutional strengthening, and energy efficiency in water and sanitation utilities. Rita has worked extensively with organisations such as national Ministries of several countries, Regulators, GIZ, and the European Commission, contributing to national water and sanitation plans, regulatory frameworks, and capacity-building initiatives. She holds a Master’s in Infrastructure and Land Use Planning Engineering and a Masters in Water and Sanitation Engineering, apart from an MBA in Business Analytics and Big Data. She has authored numerous technical publications and facilitated workshops globally.
Md Ahasan Habib,PhD currently serve as the Head of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at NGO Forum for Public Health, Bangladesh. He has over 19 years of experience in designing and implementing research and development projects collaborated with esteemed organisations, including international agencies and top global universities like Columbia University, MIT and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Dr Habib has excellent academic records and achievements from Globally recognised institutions, PhD in Land and Water Resources Engineering from KTH Riyal Institute of Technology, Sweden, including diplomas in Core Concepts in Global Health and Global Burden of Disease from Karolinska Institute (Medical University),Sweden, and in Impact Evaluation for Evidence-based Policy in Development from the International Development Centre, University of East Anglia, UK and a diploma in Evaluating Social Programs from J-PAL Europe, Bocconi University, Milan, Italy. He has numerous publications in leading journals such as Nature, STOTEN, World BanK Economic Review and JDE etc. His professional achievements reflect a commitment to sustainable development, innovative research, and impactful programming across diverse sectors.
